Listening Station

The Rounds - This exmple was written as underscore for the series of scenes when Vivan is amidst the bustling, busy enviornment of the hospital. This cue was also used as curtain call music. It should be noted that most of my music for this play was not of this nature, but I like this piece the best so here it is.

Sound Advice

I don't know how many people out there have attempted to write music for this show. Upon first read the feat not only seems monumental but, more importantly, unnecessary. The main character in this piece travels to hell and back, and all one can do (including the feeble composer) is just watch like a helpless bystander.

This being said, there are scene changes and flashbacks, and an ascent to heaven in the end, all of which could be transported to another level by musical aid. This play is also heavily focused on the works of John Donne, a 16th century theological icon, who inhabited the church's of England, and no doubt heard his share of the pipe organ and such. I decided aginst approaching the music for this piece with that in mind, and persued instead a simple melodic figure that's beautiful at first, then get's a bit warped in the end, a la a cancer cell.
